Mode of Action

Action of Major Ingredients
It contains about 50 herbal ingredients. The main effective ingredient is Asparagus racemosus (Shatavari), hence the name Narayana taila. It is popularly used for external massage in vata diseases. It alleviates vata and pitta doshas and augments kapha dosha. Topically, it decimates the burning sensation and being balya and shamaka, it is effective for vata disorders. The other ingredients Bilva, Agnimantha, Ashwagandha, Rasna, Koshtha etc., are potent vata alleviators. Its external application for massage strengthens the muscles and is therefore useful for paralysis, sciatica, joint pain, neuralgia , low back pain etc.
It is used for its anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties in Ayurveda. Recent preclinical studies on the volatile oil of Cedrus deodara shows that its anti-inflammatory property can be attributed to its mast cell stabilizing activity and the inhibition of leukotriene synthesis.
It contains not less than 60% w/w of cineole. It is a powerful anti-septic and decongestant. It alleviates inflammation and is helpful in treating rheumatism, muscular aches and pain and fibrositis. It is a diuretic, deodorant with strong anti-viral and immune stimulating properties and an effective local painkiller especially nerve pain.
Oil of Gaultheria or Gandhapura oil is derived by steam distillation. It contains methyl salicylate, which is antiseptic, analgesic, carminative and antirheumatic. Oil of wintergreen has aspirin-like properties and is a stimulant, diuretic, tonic and astringent.
It has anti-septic and diuretic qualities. It acts as an astringent. It is used as a rub for sore joints and muscles. The oil is also valued for its ability to both stimulate circulation and relax the nervous system and provide the tonic effect to the whole body. It also has a heating and drying effect on the body
Its main effective ingredient is Phaseolus radiatus. It is a potent vata dosha alleviator. Masha is an anabolic especially to muscle tissue.
It also helps in nervous debility and muscular pain and is effective for hemiplegia and paralytic conditions
It is popularly used for its analgesic and anti-septic qualities. It alleviates joint and muscle pain, arthritis, rheumatism and gout. It is a counter irritant, carminative and antipruritic.
Dashamoolam (the ten roots) are the most widely used herbs for the treatment of Vata diseases. They are also specially used as a nervine tonic.
Dosage - Apply adequate quantity and massage on affected area and repeat the application when required or as prescribed by your physician.
